Springfield, IL – In response to federal agents assaulting Senator Alex Padilla today, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:
“Come hell or high water, public servants are elected by their constituents to fight for them. To ask the hard questions. To demand accountability when their communities are harmed. That’s exactly what Senator Padilla was doing—standing up to a cruel, bigoted administration. Republicans both in Congress and here in Illinois should take note, stop being cowards–and active participants–in turning our executive branch into an authoritarian regime. Illinois Democrats stand with Senator Padilla and stand against Trump tyranny.”
