Chicago, IL – Today, as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Republican officials hold a press conference in Gary, Indiana to promote their so-called “Operation Midway Blitz”, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez issued the following statement:
“Kristi Noem came to the Midwest to do Donald Trump’s dirty work and then ran from accountability. She is helping him terrorize families, destroy trust, and turn fear into a political weapon. They made Illinois ground zero for their raids, yet they are too afraid to face the people living with the consequences.
She can run her press events in Indiana, but she can’t outrun the fear she’s unleashed or the chaos she’s helped create. Families are scared to send their kids to school. Workers are afraid to leave their homes. Small businesses are watching customers disappear while Trump fuels panic and Noem follows orders. It is cruel, it is cowardly, and Illinois has rejected it.
Illinois is pushing back. We will not be a stage for Trump’s cruelty or a platform for Republican power games. We will not allow them to use government power to rip families apart or turn neighbors against each other.
The facts are clear. Crime is down. Violence is down. Illinois is safer because Democrats invest in prevention, expand mental health care, and support law enforcement that protects people instead of targeting them.
While Republicans traffic in fear and intimidation, Illinois Democrats are leading. We are protecting our residents, defending the Constitution, and keeping this state strong, safe, and united.”
