Springfield, IL — As the enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act begins today, Illinoisans are confronted with the stark reality that their health care costs for next year have skyrocketed—all because Republicans including Donald Trump, Mary Miller, Darin LaHood and Mike Bost refuse to reopen our government and lower costs. For nearly 400,000 Illinoisans, their health care costs next year will double—and the GOP won’t join Democrats in lowering health care costs and reopening the government. In response to ACA open enrollment beginning today, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:
“As Donald Trump, Mary Miller, Darin LaHood and Mike Bost prolong this massive health care crisis, Illinois working families, who are already struggling under Trump’s failed economy, will soon be priced out of their health care coverage entirely. The reality is that families across Illinois will be forced to choose between health care and paying for other necessities, like rent, groceries, or car payments. This should never be a reality families are forced with, and it is all because Republicans failed to do their job. That’s why Illinois Democrats are fighting day and night to save health care for working Illinoisans and lower costs.”
From Day One, Democrats have been unwavering in our fight to lower health care costs for Illinoisans. Meanwhile, Republicans are on vacation—refusing to return to Washington, D.C. and solve the health care crisis they created.
Democrats will continue fighting to ensure health care premiums don’t double for 395,850 Illinoisans and that roughly 470,000 Illinoisans don’t lose their health insurance entirely.
