Press Release:  Democratic Party of Illinois Reacts to Republicans’ Attacks on Voting Rights

Springfield, IL — In response to Republicans working to dismantle Illinoisans’ voting rights in real time—from the President of the United States calling for the “nationalization” of our electoral system to Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon announcing “we’re going to have ICE surround the polls come November,” to U.S. Congresspeople Mike Bost (IL-12), Mary Miller (IL-15), and Darin LaHood’s (IL-16) baseless voter fraud claims–Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez shared the following:

“Republicans are shameless in their attempts to bring America backwards. It’s disgustingly clear that they believe voting should be harder if your skin is brown, your accent different from theirs, or if you don’t support their MAGA destruction.”

“Currently, rural families can’t afford groceries and health care because of MAGA’s failing policies. Miller, LaHood, and Bost know this. Instead of owning and fixing that, they’re parroting the White House and trying to sow distrust in our voting system to distract their constituents.”

“Times like these are when community and grassroots organizing across our state and amongst our Illinois Democratic delegation is non-negotiable. We have to continue working to protect Illinoisans’ right to have their voices heard at the polls–without the risk of being targeted by their own government.”
