Springfield, IL — As polls across the state close and the 2026 primary officially wraps, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez emphasized this exciting moment for Democratic unity.
“Across the state, Democrats cast their votes for the leaders they want to fight for them on November’s ballot and beyond,” said DPI Chair Hernandez. “From the U.S. Senate to Governor to Illinois Comptroller and more, the Party is excited to get behind nominees up and down the ticket. I know each of these Democrats will build upon our state’s strong legacy of progress and will stand up for working people.”
“Tonight, Illinois Democrats showed up. I’m proud to stand as the Democratic nominee for governor alongside the outstanding ticket we put forward,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “From the top of the ballot all the way down, we nominated candidates who are committed to fighting for working families and defending the values that make Illinois home. Illinois Democrats are united behind this ticket and I’m excited to get to work electing every single one of them.”
“I’m humbled and honored to be the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, running alongside the best governor in the country, JB Pritzker, a fighter who’s delivered for every Illinoisan,” said Christian Mitchell, candidate for Lieutenant Governor. “As we head into the general election, I’m ready to do everything I can to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, protect the progress we’ve made, and keep Illinois moving forward.”
This spring, the Party will launch Organize Illinois 2026, its coordinated campaign for the General Election. Organize Illinois 2026 will execute a statewide campaign to support candidates up and down the ticket with dozens of field staff and volunteers, and coalition-building across voters, allied organizations, and community organizers.
“The state party didn’t take lightly our voter education work leading up to today’s primary,” said DPI Executive Director Ben Hardin. “Our voter protection hotline was an all hands on deck effort. We informed the electorate about the USPS postmark change affecting vote-by-mail, worked closely with county chairs, and we recruited and retained volunteers. Now, our work continues as we prepare to launch Organize Illinois 2026.”
