Press Release:  Democratic Party of Illinois Reacts to Donald Trump’s Obamas Tweet

Springfield, IL — In response to Donald Trump’s anti-Black attack on former United States President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama, the Democratic Party of Illinois shared the following:

“The head of our nation pulling out a centuries-old racist trope during Black History Month is a calculated choice and a disgrace. As the White House stumbles and tries to shift blame, two things remain true: the video should have never been created in the first place, and despite how much his frail ego hopes, no anti-Black tweet will ever make Donald Trump half the leader the Obamas are.”

“The Illinois Republican Party—from Chair to gubernatorial candidates—should be asked what their reaction is to this. Their silence is complicity, and it’s another reminder to their constituents that they’re spineless and alright with racism.”
