Press Release:  Democratic Party of Illinois Stands with Illini Democrats

Springfield, IL — In response to Illini Republicans’ Instagram post stating that they “stand with ICE” and sharing a graphic image amid the killings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez denounces the post and calls on Illinois Republican leadership to condemn the message.

“Without question, the Democratic Party of Illinois stands with Illini Democrats in condemning Illini Republicans’ appalling post celebrating ICE amid the murders of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti by Donald Trump’s federal agents in Minnesota,” said Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez. “This embrace of state violence, celebration of killing, and lack of empathy has no place in Illinois or on our campuses. I call on the Illinois Republican Party and every Republican candidate in our state to denounce this post and make clear that celebrating violence of any kind—but especially murders—is unacceptable.”
