Springfield, IL — From the grocery store to the gas pump, a new report from the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee found that Illinois families have lost $766 since Donald Trump took office. While Illinoisans deal with skyrocketing groceries and rent, Donald Trump is building a gilded ballroom, hosting Great Gatsby parties, and pocketing billions of dollars for his family’s businesses. As the holidays approach, Republicans have no plan to lower costs. In fact, Representatives Mary Miller, Mike Bost, and Darin LaHood want to get rid of the tax credits that help their constituents in rural Illinois afford health care.
In response to this new report, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:
“Trump and Republicans don’t give a damn about the affordability crisis they created in Illinois—that’s why they won’t lift a finger to fix it. While Donald Trump is making billions off the presidency, working families in Illinois are paying the price for his failed economic policies. Donald Trump promised to lower costs on Day One, but in reality, Illinois families have lost almost $800 each to inflation since he took office. Trump’s disastrous billionaire-first agenda is cheating Illinois families of the hard-earned dollars they need to afford the roof over their heads, the clothes on their back, and the food on their tables. Unlike Donald Trump and Republicans who continue to tank our economy, Illinois Democrats are fighting to lower costs, protect health care, and create jobs.”
