Springfield, IL — Today, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez announced Democratic State Central Committee members State Representative Maurice West (IL-17) as the Party’s Vice Chair, State Senator Cristina Castro (IL-08) as the Party’s Secretary, and attorney and Democratic lawyer Patrick Croke’s second term as Party Treasurer.
“I’m proud that these three dedicated Democrats chose to be a part of Party operations, and I’m excited to work closely alongside them in leading DPI in the years ahead,” said Chair Hernandez. “West, Castro and Croke all bring a wealth of experience, differing backgrounds and unique geographical knowledge—the very things DPI needs to build—and sustain—our diverse base. DPI looks to win big in November, raise money, and recruit quality candidates for 2027’s municipal elections. That will happen with strong leadership.”
“I’m honored to serve the Democratic Party of Illinois as Vice Chair, and I’m especially proud to bring downstate representation to this role,” said Vice Chair West. “Leadership is about lifting up the voices around you, and I’m committed to supporting Chair Hernandez in harmonizing diverse perspectives into a powerful force for our state—with downstate Illinois having a seat at the table.”
“Our Party is stronger when various voices are a part of the decision-making,” said Secretary Castro. “As an elected official representing areas of substantial growth in the collar counties, I’m excited to work alongside Chair Hernandez in this executive role. Together, we will help ensure voters know that the Democratic Party of Illinois belongs to all of us.”
“The Democratic Party of Illinois is continuing to grow, and I’m proud to serve for a second term alongside these officers,” said Treasurer Croke. “We each take to heart the work of moving our state party forward and ensuring we build a strong statewide organization for years to come.”
Vice Chair Maurice West is in his third term as State Central Committeeman of the 17th Congressional District. West represents Illinois House District 67 in the General Assembly, and is a strong community leader bringing workforce training to the region, and championing public health and equity issues. Secretary Castro is in her second term as State Central Committeewoman of the 8th Congressional District. Castro represents Illinois Senate District 22, and has led the charge on affordable housing, protecting immigrant communities and comprehensive ethics reform. Treasurer Croke is in his second term as the Party’s Treasurer. Along with years of community involvement to uplift working families, he has worked as an advisor and lawyer across political and government entities.
Under Chair Hernandez’s leadership, DPI has been transformed from the Party of decades past. What was once an inaccessible organization for many, has become a diverse organizing machine representing Illinois Democratic voters in every corner of the state.
