Springfield, IL — After the close of the Spring 2026 legislative session, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez and Deputy Majority Leader of the Illinois House released the following statement:
“Throughout this spring legislative session, Illinois Democrats led by House Speaker Chris Welch, Senate President Don Harmon and Governor Pritzker kept one goal in mind: delivering for everyday Illinoisans. Down to the very last hour, we prioritized our state’s students, passed protections for survivors of domestic violence, invested in programs to help families keep food on the table, and more. I’m proud to say we fought for Illinois despite cruel funding cuts by the federal administration and in the face of Donald Trump’s economy that has squeezed the wallets of folks across our state. I look forward to Governor Pritzker signing the budget into law.”
