Chicago, IL — With help from Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07), and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez rallied over a thousand Democrats, labor leaders and volunteers from across the state for the Party’s third annual gala at the Hilton Chicago this past Friday. For the third consecutive year, this marquee event raised approximately $1 million for the Party, which will be used for candidate training efforts, campaign support, voter education and messaging initiatives.
“Democrats want to do their jobs, but Republicans fail to. The GOP is currently holding the government hostage. House Republicans have refused to swear in Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva—the first Latina elected to Congress from Arizona. Still, Grijalva is standing her ground, is committed to holding truth to power, and embodies the courage and conviction our Party stands for,” said Chair Hernandez.
Hernandez continued: “We were joined by another leader who deeply understands Democrats’ fight. Governor Tim Walz has a proven record as an advocate for working families, and has shown us what it means to defend democracy when it’s under attack. When Trump declared ‘no new wars,’ Governor Walz reminds us that means no new wars in America either.”
