Springfield, IL — Ahead of Donald Trump’s speech where he plans to spew conspiracy theories about his 2020 election loss and raise doubts about our electoral system, the Democratic Party of Illinois reminds voters that Darren Bailey stands behind The Big Lie:
“Anyone who cannot admit that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election lacks the integrity to be anywhere near the governor’s office,” said DPI spokeswoman Gwen Pepin. “While Trump repeats blatant lies and Republicans like Darren Bailey try to prevent voters from holding them accountable, Illinois Democrats fight for free and fair elections, invest in year-round organizing, and work around the clock to protect the right to vote.”
For years, Darren Bailey peddled The Big Lie:

In an April interview, Bailey said “get over it,” “it is absolutely 100% irrelevant,” and “it doesn’t matter anymore,” when asked if Trump lost the 2020 election.

Bailey promoted election fraud conspiracies and said the idea of Trump conceding in 2020 was “appalling:” “‘All this fraudulent activity is absolutely disgusting. It’s wrong, it’s—in my opinion—almost the highest form of treason in our country, so we pray that it will be dealt with.’ After the election, Bailey said on social media that he stood with Trump and that he found the idea that he should concede ‘appalling.’”
