Press Release:  Multiple Knox County Republicans’ Nominating Petitions Called into Question for 2026 Primary Election

Galesburg, IL – In hypocritical maneuvers that undermine public trust in our elections, Knox County Republicans seemingly acted in bad faith to get on voters’ ballots for the 2026 General Primary Election. Voters in Knox County have filed objectors petitions against five different Republican candidates seeking County Office for the March 2026 General Primary Election.

Objections were filed against Scott Erickson for County Clerk—who is currently the incumbent County Clerk—and GOP candidates for Knox County Treasurer Janet Windish and Jerrie Ann Walters. The objections, filed yesterday with the Knox County Clerk, allege that the candidates filed multiple invalid signatures, sometimes indicating a pattern of fraud, that would undermine the integrity of the nominating process in Illinois.

Objections were also filed against Tammy Weiss and Anthony Weiss, who are both running for Knox County Board District 1. These candidates are alleged to have submitted signatures of a non-registered voter and an individual who resides outside the district.

Democratic State Central Committeewoman and Knox County Democrats Chair Davidson issued the following statement: “The Knox County GOP is a hypocritical mess. For a Party that likes to manufacture tales of “voter fraud” and posture about electoral transparency, they have done a stand up job of betraying Knox County voters’ trust in their sneaky attempts for ballot access. MAGA Republicans—especially an incumbent county clerk—should be embarrassed.”
