NEW REPORT: Because of Trump, Electricity Bills Have Increased by 15.9% for Illinois Families

Springfield, IL — On the campaign trail, Donald Trump promised that energy costs would be “cut in half.” However, according to a new report, the average family in Illinois saw their electricity bill increase by $210 last year under Trump — a 15.9% increase from before he took office. Trump’s own Energy Secretary even admitted last week that, “High electricity prices are a political choice. They’re not required.”

In response, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez said the following:

“As Donald Trump prioritizes gilded ballrooms and courting billionaires and special interests, working families across Illinois are paying the price for his disastrous economic policies. Illinois families are paying more for groceries, more for gas, and $210 more on their electricity bills, all while Donald Trump’s richest donors pay even less in taxes. It’s wrong — which is why as Illinois Republicans double down on Trump’s billionairefirst agenda, Illinois Democrats are united in fighting to lower costs for hardworking families across Illinois.”
