Springfield, IL — Republicans’ betrayal in the year since Donald Trump’s election has been swift, cruel and cuts deep. During his campaign, Trump and MAGA Republicans lied, repeatedly, to Illinoisans about implementing Project 2025, dismissing the Democrats who called out their anti-working family agenda from jump. One year later and nine months since Trump took office, Congresspeople Mike Bost (IL-12), Mary Miller (IL-15), and Darin LaHood (IL-16) have refused to speak out against this White House’s attacks on Illinoisans’ quality of life.
“One year ago, Republicans claimed they would tackle affordability and stand up for the everyday Illinoisan. Democrats knew that was a lie. Every day since last year’s general election, Illinois Dems have been fighting extremist policies, state-sanctioned violence and racist rhetoric. Nine months into Trump’s presidency, Illinoisans are not better off because of Republican policies—they are decidedly worse,” said DPI Chair Lisa Hernandez.
Instead of lowering costs and improving quality of life, as promised, the GOP:

Refuses to make available funds for SNAP benefits for 2 million Illinoisans and 42 million Americans.

Unleashed an unorganized and violent kidnapping campaign for immigrants and people of color.

Has wasted taxpayers’ dollars by forcing the National Guard to sit idly in Will County.

Is allowing ACA subsidies to lapse, while also making cuts to Medicaid—and without offering a national health care plan of their own.

Shut down the federal government for a record length of time, with workers experiencing furloughs and missing paychecks.

Championed tariffs that hurt small businesses and make goods more expensive.

Implemented agriculture policies that are a slap in the face to Illinois farmers, including bailing out Argentina, while food growers at home suffer.
