Press Release:  Petition Season Closes With Democrats Organized, Republicans Missing In Action

Springfield, IL – Yesterday marked the end of petition filing, and aside from submitting for governor, Illinois Republicans only managed to file a handful of petitions for statewide offices. With no filings for Illinois State Treasurer, the ILGOP marked the first time in nearly a century that a major party lacked a statewide candidate for a primary. In response to this sorry lack of organization from the ILGOP, the Democratic Party of Illinois issued the following statement:

“The end of petition filing proved what Illinois Democrats and voters already knew–the ILGOP are simply unserious about doing their jobs. They can’t recruit candidates, they can’t organize, and they certainly can’t raise money. If they can’t meet the lowest bar of running for office, how can voters trust them to govern or fight for working families?”
