Chicago, IL — The Illinois Republican Party elected Bob Grogan as its new chair yesterday, handing a victory to hard-right operatives Dan Proft and Jeanne Ives and a defeat to Darren Bailey and Aaron Del Mar, whose preferred candidate failed to hold the position. The outcome signals a MAGA-aligned faction has seized control of the party that is increasingly out of step with Illinois voters.

Here are ten questions for Bob Grogan as he takes on his new role:

1. Darren Bailey and Aaron Del Mar’s hand-picked choice for chair failed to win re-election. Why should Illinois voters trust Republicans to govern anything beyond their own infighting?

2. Are you an independent leader, or will you serve as a vehicle for the extreme agendas of Dan Proft and Jeanne Ives?

3. Will you disavow your support of Awake Illinois, a group recognized by the Southern Poverty Law Center’s hate map?

4. Why did you back Ted Dabrowski in the primary, and what does that choice say about your political judgment?

5. Why did you personally request a recount after your first loss in the DuPage County Auditor’s race, knowing it was going to drain vital campaign funds from GOP donors?

6. Why do you not support marriage equality?

7. Will you speak out against the ways Donald Trump’s war in Iran is raising costs for Illinois working families?

8. Will you stand up for Illinois farmers and small business owners being hurt by Trump’s failed tariffs?

9. Will you defend Illinois communities, or continue to support an immigration agenda that has resulted in the detention of U.S. citizens and civilian deaths?

10. Do you support women’s reproductive rights?

Bob Grogan has yet to make the case for why Illinois voters should back a party consumed by internal conflict rather than the issues facing everyday Illinoisans. While the ILGOP remains mired in irrelevance and total disarray, voters still deserve answers to these questions.
