Springfield, IL — Donald Trump, with help from Mike Bost (IL-12), Mary Miller (IL-15), and Darin LaHood (IL-16), passed the largest cut to health care in history – stripping coverage from 470,000 Illinoisans. Now, Republicans are refusing to save health care tax credits that keep coverage affordable. Without the credits, 520,000 Illinoisans will lose insurance and premiums will skyrocket by 75%. Instead of prioritizing their constituents, Republicans are threatening to shut down the government and lay off workers – while further stripping Illinoisans’ health care. In response, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and his allies – including Illinois Representatives Mary Miller (IL-15), Mike Bost (IL-12), and Darin LaHood (IL-16) – would rather shut down the government than work with Democrats to prevent a massive health care crisis for hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans. Republicans are responsible for these skyrocketing costs, and when Democrats offered them a chance to reverse their devastating cuts to health care, they flat-out rejected it. As Trump and Republicans barrel toward a government shutdown that would furlough 45,000 federal workers in Illinois and throw our economy into even more chaos, Democrats are united: cancel the cuts, lower costs, and save health care for Illinoisans.”
