Springfield, IL – As Illinoisans prepare to close out the summer by celebrating Labor Day Weekend with a road trip or backyard cookout, they are finding this year’s holiday to be more expensive than last year thanks to Republicans. Despite their promise to lower costs, Donald Trump and Illinois Republicans Mike Bost (IL-12), Mary Miller (IL-15), and Darin LaHood (IL-16) have pushed a harmful agenda that has piled on higher costs after higher costs for just about everything — all so they can line the pockets of their ultra-wealthy friends and fund their reckless and unpopular war of choice with Iran.
BY THE NUMBERS: The cost of this year’s Labor Day celebration under Trump and Congressional Republicans:

$4,200 — Estimated cost of how much the average Illinois household has paid in higher costs for goods and services since Trump retook office.

$4.31 — The average price for a gallon of gas in Illinois, up from $3.48 last year.

20% — Increase in airfare costs to the top Labor Day destinations.

9% — Increase in domestic hotel costs from last year.
In response, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:
“This Labor Day Weekend is another glaring reminder of Donald Trump and Illinois Republicans’ empty words and empty promises of bringing down costs. Congressional Republicans created this affordability crisis, and Illinoisans are at their wits’ end trying to afford everyday necessities while the ultra-wealthy get rewarded with massive tax giveaways. Now, as Illinois families gear up for another expensive holiday weekend, they’re left with three choices: either take food out of their shopping carts, cancel their vacation plans, or dip into their savings to pay more for their holiday celebration. Make no mistake: Illinoisans will remember exactly who used them as piggy banks to fund unpopular wars and tax breaks for the rich when they go to the ballot box in November.”
A reminder: Illinois Congressional Republicans Mike Bost (IL-12), Mary Miller (IL-15), and Darin LaHood (IL-16) would rather bend the knee to Donald Trump and rubber stamp his economic chaos, reckless tariffs, and war with Iran than stand up for their own constituents.
