Springfield, IL – In response to the Supreme Court’s majority ruling in Trump v. CASA, Inc., Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:

“The Supreme Court’s ruling made it one step easier for Trump to enact his racist goal: narrow who gets to be called an American and condemn the rest of us. If enacted, the end of birthright citizenship would undermine the Constitution and uproot entire communities.”

“As the proud Mexican-American daughter of immigrants—and a legislator who’s worked for nearly twenty years in the Illinois General Assembly to help uplift immigrant communities—this is personal for me. It’s personal for Illinois Democrats. It is why we will continue to fight back in legislation, in the courts and in our streets. Democrats have to be loud–and stay loud–when we say that immigrants are a part of the fabric of this country.”
