Democratic Party of Illinois Statement on Illinois Republicans Opposing Censure of Rep. Paul Gosar
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives formally censured Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar for posting a violent video depicting him murdering Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Gosar is just the 24th House member to be censured in the history of our country. Every Illinois Democratic member of the House supported the bipartisan censure, while Illinois Republican Reps. Mike Bost, Rodney Davis, Darin LaHood, and Mary Miller opposed holding Gosar accountable for his violent rhetoric.
Democratic Party of Illinois Executive Director Abby Witt released the following statement in response:
“Can someone please remind these Republicans that Donald Trump isn’t president anymore? You don’t have to continue to stick your head in the sand when an elected leader posts completely inappropriate violent rhetoric against women on social media. For once, take a stand for decency. Illinois families deserve better.”
