With just 27 days to go until the November election, GOP gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey will tonight join State Supreme Court candidate Mark Curran and others at the Women’s Republican Club of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff.

Abortion is on the ballot, and voters deserve to know exactly where Republicans stand on critical reproductive rights. The truth: Bailey, Curran, and others up and down the ballot are determined to roll back the clock and strip women of their reproductive rights on Day One in office.

Darren Bailey, best known for his heinous comparison of abortion to the Holocaust, has also gone on the record opposing abortion even in case of extreme exceptions, and threatened to support measures to restrict abortions with firearm-esque waiting periods. There’s no doubt that a Bailey administration would seriously threaten women’s reproductive rights not just for Illinois women who rely on this access to critical care, but also for women in neighboring states counting on Illinois as a safe haven.

In the race for State Supreme Court seats in the 2nd and 3rd districts, both Mark Curran and Michael Burke are supported by Illinois Right to Life and other extreme anti-choice groups lobbying for full abortion bans with no exceptions even for rape or incest.

Curran has repeatedly attended anti-choice ralliesdonated his own campaign funds to anti-abortion groups, and even celebrated the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, saying: “I never thought I would see the day. This is why we voted for Trump.” Curran, who has never been appointed or elected and has never served as a judge, was also deemed “not recommended” by the Illinois State Bar Association.

Besides being rated by Illinois Right to Life Action as “qualified,” Burke attended multiple Illinois Right to Life banquets, including this past April. He was also once a member of DuPage County St. Thomas More Society of Catholic Lawyers; the national Thomas More Society sued to invalidate Illinois’ 2019 abortion rights law.

With reproductive rights on the ballot, the stakes of the November election couldn’t be higher. As Republicans up and down the ticket threaten to strip Illinois women of their critical reproductive rights, voters will remember at the ballot box.
