Chicago, IL – As thousands of Illinois’s public school students wrap up their first week of a new academic year, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez reaffirms her support of access to high-quality, free public education for every child across our state:

As the new school year begins, it’s essential to focus on the priorities we’ve set as Democrats, both nationally and here in Illinois. At the Democratic National Convention last week, we came together around a platform that underscores the importance of public education as the cornerstone of our democracy. In Illinois, we are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to a high-quality, free public education.

The platform we voted on makes it clear: we must strengthen our public schools, and remain fully committed to making investments in our students and teachers to build equity in our education system and resist programs like public school vouchers.

Illinois Democrats are focused on ensuring that our public schools have the resources they need to help every student succeed. As we start this school year, we’ll continue working to build an education system that supports fairness, opportunity, and excellence for all Illinois children,” said DPI Chair Lisa Hernandez.
