For the First Time Ever, U.S. Adds 7 Million Jobs in 12 Month Period, With 467k More in January Alone

According to data released this morning, the U.S. added 467,000 jobs in January, a much higher total than many expected and yet another sign that Democrats’ economic plan is delivering results for working people. This also marks the first time in U.S. history that 7 million jobs have been created in 12 months.

In total, the U.S. has gained back 87% of the 22 million jobs lost in the pandemic recession – in large part thanks to the impact of the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan which have invested billions in job-creating infrastructure projects and direct financial relief to Illinois’ working families.

“As Americans head back to work in record numbers, it’s crystal clear that President Biden’s economic agenda is delivering for families in Illinois and across the country,” said Democratic Party of Illinois Executive Director Abby Witt. “Unfortunately, Illinois Republicans refuse to work constructively to strengthen the economy, as every single Illinois Republican voted against the American Rescue Plan which helped create these jobs. Illinoisans deserve to know why Republicans consistently put partisan politics ahead of creating good jobs, but regardless, President Biden and Illinois Democrats will continue to do the work to deliver for the American people.”
