Chicago, IL – As MAGA House Republicans continue to march Illinoisans towards a looming government shutdown that could force 1.3 million servicemembers, including 22,600 in Illinois, to work without pay and furlough hundreds of thousands of civilian workers in the Department of Defense, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:

“House Republicans will stop at nothing to try and force their MAGA agenda on Illinoisans, including threatening a government shutdown that could put our national security at risk and force our state’s servicemembers to work without pay. Our troops make extraordinary sacrifices every day to keep Illinoisans and Americans throughout the country safe. Servicemembers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect — but instead, House Republicans like Mary Miller are bargaining with their livelihoods all to push an extreme, partisan agenda that would devastate working families,” said DPI Chair Lisa Hernandez.
