Chicago, IL – Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement ahead of the swearings-in of the 57th Mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson, City Clerk Anna Valencia, City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin, and the members of the Chicago City Council:

“On behalf of the Democratic Party of Illinois, I want to congratulate Chicago’s 57th Mayor Brandon Johnson, City Clerk Anna Valencia, City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin, and each of the members of the Chicago City Council who will be sworn into office today. I am excited to see how they will work together to serve the people of Chicago and look forward to collaborating with them as we prepare to welcome Democrats from across the nation to Chicago for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. I am confident that they will work diligently to move the city forward and build a strong and inclusive Chicago.

I’d like to extend my gratitude to Mayor Lori Lightfoot for her leadership and dedication to the City of Chicago. I thank her for her service and wish her all the best,” said DPI Chair Lisa Hernandez.
