Chicago, IL — As votes for down-ballot races continue to be counted, the Democratic Party of Illinois released the following statement:
“Like many Democrats across the country, we are reflecting on and processing the results of the presidential election. Here in Illinois, we remain as determined as ever to continue the fight to protect Democratic values. This cycle, Illinois Democrats stayed the course in our Blue State—not only extending critical support to our partners to the north and east—but also mobilizing tirelessly here at home. For the first time, DPI executed a comprehensive, statewide coordinated campaign extending down the entire ballot. Through Organize Illinois 2024, we maximized volunteer recruitment, voter outreach, and get-out-the-vote efforts while remaining committed to community-led action.
“Our volunteers and organizers made nearly 2 million voter contacts across Illinois. We stood alongside Democratic candidates dedicated to our shared values, and engaged voters in targeted counties. The Party made direct investments in down-ballot races, targeting key county board seats, and prioritized voter turnout among Black and Latino communities.
“While we continue to await final results in Illinois, we remain proud of the tremendous organizing and collaboration we’ve achieved across our state. Victories in IL-13 with Rep. Nikki Budzinski and IL-17 with Rep. Eric Sorensen highlight the early impact of our efforts, and we remain optimistic for further successes down the ballot.
“As Illinois Democrats begin to turn our focus in the coming weeks to upcoming municipal races, we understand the critical need to counter renewed efforts from the extreme, Trump-aligned factions of the IL GOP. Alongside Governor Pritzker, President Harmon and Speaker Welch, Chair Hernandez and our Party remain resolute in our mission, ready to meet these challenges head-on, defend our values in every corner of the state, and continue building upon our progress.”
