In a new ad released today, Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Kathy Salvi falsely claims that Senator Tammy Duckworth supports criminals over victims and wants to defund the police. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Besides voting to send millions to first responders through the American Rescue Plan, the CARES Act, and the Invest to Protect Act, Duckworth introduced her own bipartisan Public Safety Officer Support Act, which was signed into law earlier this year. This critical legislation honors the public service of police officers, firefighters and emergency responders by supporting the families of public safety officers who are lost to trauma-linked suicides. The bill was endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the National Association of Police Organizations.

While Duckworth has long been a strong advocate for our first responders, Kathy Salvi is resorting to misleading voters with false claims to hide from her real record — like her “A” rating from the gun lobby. Voters know the truth: Duckworth is the only candidate in the race committed to supporting first responders and protecting Illinois communities.
