Springfield, IL – In response to the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:

“For 60 years, Medicaid and Medicare have been a lifeline for millions of Illinoisans to access lifesaving health care. These programs are a reflection of our values — that everyone should have access to quality, affordable coverage, no matter their age or their income.”

“However, Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Budget rips away essential care from Illinois’ working families to give more tax handouts to billionaires. 330,000 Illinoisans will lose their health insurance because Republicans Mary Miller, Darin LaHood, and Mike Bost voted for these cuts. Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans are okay with creating a health care crisis for working families, children, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities, but Illinois Democrats will continue to fight tooth and nail to protect Illinoisans from heinous attacks on social safety nets.”
