Chicago, IL – In reaction to long-time public servant U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis (IL-07) announcing today that he won’t be seeking reelection, Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez released the following statement:
“The Democratic Party of Illinois congratulates Congressman Danny Davis on his retirement and thanks him for a lifetime of service to the people of the 7th District, the state of Illinois, and our party.
“From the West Side of Chicago to the halls of Congress, Representative Davis has been a steady voice for justice, equity, and opportunity. In Washington, he led efforts to expand health care access, strengthen the social safety net, reform the criminal justice system, and invest in working families. He brought his values into every room and always stayed rooted in the communities he represented.
“As a longtime State Central Committeeman, he also helped shape the future of the Democratic Party in Illinois. He mentored new leaders, built coalitions, and worked to ensure our party reflected the people we serve.
“His impact runs deep. We are proud to celebrate his legacy and wish him the very best in this next chapter.
