A new lawsuit filed by Illinois Republicans with Trump ties seeks to invalidate mailed ballots postmarked on or before Election Day but received by election authorities afterward — meaning thousands of ballots mailed by overseas military, seniors, and other Illinoisans who choose to take advantage of mail-in voting would be invalidated.

The lawsuit was filed by Judicial Watch, one of the groups that supported Trump’s attempt to stop the counting of mail-in ballots in 2020. It’s one of more than 100 filed nationally in advance of the November election that seek to undermine legal, effective voting methods and processes like mail-in voting and early voting — and ultimately attempt to stoke fear in voters and cast doubt on the voting process.

Here’s the truth: Republicans will stop at nothing to make voting harder for Illiniosans — and they’re willing to throw active-duty servicemembers and seniors under the bus to do it.

It’s just the latest example in a long string of efforts by Illinois Republicans to make voting harder. In contrast, Democrats will continue to support overseas military service members, seniors, and all Illinoisans to ensure that every eligible person is able to easily register and vote in a safe, convenient, and secure manner.
