Today, former Vice President Mike Pence visits Illinois for two events. Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Rep. Robin Kelly released the following statement:

“As the Jan. 6 Committee continues to shed light on how Mike Pence refused to go along with Donald Trump’s attempt to destroy our democracy, Illinois now becomes the latest stop on Pence’s redemption tour. But there is no chance Illinoisans will forget the catastrophic four years of the Trump/Pence Administration or their ultra-MAGA agenda.

“Pence’s disastrous economic record as Vice President includes a net loss of 3 million jobs and a 1.6 percent increase in the national unemployment rate, giving him the worst jobs record since the Great Depression. Now, Pence and the ultra-MAGA Republican Party are trying to rewrite history while pushing to overturn Roe v. Wade, proposing new taxes on working families, threatening Medicare and Social Security, and yet again trying to gut the Affordable Care Act.

“While Republicans attack the middle class, Illinois Democrats are defending reproductive choice, lowering costs and growing good-paying jobs, protecting the environment, investing in infrastructure, and more. The contrast between the failure of the Trump/Pence Administration and the progress we are making in Illinois could not be more clear.”
