Chicago, IL – The Democratic Party of Illinois (DPI) has begun distributing resources for the 2024 Democratic National Convention including a Delegate Selection Toolkit. This toolkit is designed to ensure that all Democrats who want to participate in the delegate selection process have the information they need to do so.
Diversity is a high priority of the Democratic Party of Illinois, and for this reason, DPI has increased delegate representation goals across historically underrepresented constituencies by 15% over National Party recommendations. To achieve those goals, DPI will be conducting targeted outreach and hosting informational workshops in locations around the state throughout the month of September to distribute all the resources Democrats will need to run for delegate. Locations will include Darien, Decatur, Peoria, Skokie, East St. Louis, and Chicago.
Delegate workshops will be hosted by DPI’s Regional Political Organizing team, giving Democrats across Illinois the opportunity to learn how they can be involved at the DNC and answer any questions about the process.
DPI’s Delegate Toolkit includes an overview of the roles and responsibilities of delegates, a timeline for circulating nominating petitions and filing, and a synopsis of DPI’s diversity goals for the Illinois delegation.
Illinois will send 178 delegates and 12 alternates to the convention next August. District-Level Delegates will be elected at the March 19, 2024 primary election, and pledged Party Leaders and Elected Officials and At-Large Delegates will be selected by a quorum of District-Level Delegates on April 29, 2024.
The Delegate Selection Toolkit and other convention resources are available for viewing here.
